Family Gammaridae (Genus Gammarus) – The first pair of antennae (white arrow, Fig. 1) are longer than the second (black arrow, Fig. 1). Gammarus is usually larger than Hyalella (Fig. 2). The overall body appears as in Figure 3.

Family Hyalellidae (Genus Hyalella) – The first pair of antennae (white arrow, Fig. 4) are shorter than the second (black arrow, Fig. 4). Hyalella is generally smaller than Gammarus (Fig. 5). The overall body appears as in Figure 6.
